Wind energy as a means of producing electricity has become one of the most popular methods of going green. It’s not just wind farms that are generating power from the wind, however. Home wind turbines are showing up in the most unlikely places.
A teenage boy in Africa built a home wind turbine that supplies his family’s electricity needs for their small home. Built entirely from scrap parts, this ingenious young man is truly an inspiration. That is living off the grid in it’s purest form.
In Hollywood, celebrities are also getting in on the act. The star of the popular Tonight show, Jay Leno has installed a wind turbine on his famous garage. Previously "Jay’s garage" was known mainly for the collection of antique cars kept there by Leno. Now it is gaining fame for wind power as well.
Ed Begley,Jr., a Hollywood veteran best remembered for "St. Elsewhere", is a wind power believer also. Begley not only has a home wind turbine, but has owned part interest in a California wind farm for several years.
From Africa to Hollywood, interest in home wind turbines is at an all time high. Oil markets controlled by cartels and foreign interests continue to cause major concerns worldwide. As oil prices get higher, electricity rates follow suit. But recent trends have shown that while crude oil prices will rise and fall, electricity rates tend to remain at high levels.
Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power cannot be controlled or dominated by governments or corporations. Unlike oil, energy from the sun and wind are not in short supply. As long as the wind blows and the sun shines, energy can be readily obtained from these natural sources.
Wind energy technology has made tremendous strides in the past few decades. It is now easier than ever before to produce electricity from wind power. Windmills have come of age and are now in the forefront of green energy production.
Today it is a simple matter for homeowners worldwide to take advantage of the free and renewable energy supplied by the wind. Home wind turbines are no longer a dream, but a viable option for anyone considering going green. After all, if a teenage boy in Africa using scrap parts can do it, can’t you?
